The story

A father–daughter project.

Thing Button is something Evelyn Anderson and her dad, Chris Anderson, are building together — for fun.

What we’re making

A big button that sits on a desk. You pick a Thing you want to do more often — drink water, practice guitar, homework, anything — and every time you do it, you press the button.

The press goes over Wi‑Fi to this website, which keeps count and tells you You did a thing. Over a few weeks the presses add up to a picture of what you actually did.

02

How we’re building it

Together, one piece at a time. Inside there’s an ESP32 — a tiny computer with Wi‑Fi built in — wired to a big red arcade button. Getting the two talking meant soldering, which is what Evelyn is doing in the pictures above.

Then there’s the code: a small program on the button that sends each press, and this website, which turns the presses into something you can look at.

03

Where it is now

We’ve built five Thing Buttons so far, each wired by hand, and they work: press one, and a moment later the website says so.

It isn’t for sale. It’s a project, not a store — and the fun part is building it.
